Our hotel near Caldaro/Kaltern, the Gartenhotel Moser, is managed by the Mosers, who beside hotellerie share a second passion: fruit- and wine growing.
The Moser family now manages a total of 13 hectares of orchards and vineyards, stretching across the areas of Monticolo/Montiggl, Appiano/Eppan and lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See, where the following vine varieties are grown:
- Riesling “Montiggl”
- Pinot bianco
- Pinot Grigio (Ruländer/Grauburgunder)
- Gewürztraminer (dry cultivation and late harvest)
- Schiava (Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See)
- Lagrein (Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See)
The wine harvest is delivered to the St. Michael/Eppan and Girlan wine cellars. The areas cultivated by the Moser family are some of the best in the area and their harvests are used to produce the most renowned South Tyrolean wines.
Take a look at our map!
Every year in the months of December and January, the dessert wine grapes Gewürztraminer Pasithea Oro late harvest with noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) – grown on a surface of ca. ½ ha – are harvested. Almost like berries! The grapes and berries are then carefully selected at the Girlan winery.
After three years, this sweet, amber-coloured wine reaches the market (about 1,000-1,500 0,375 l bottles) and the enthusiastic palate of our guests, for instance during the special wine tasting with host Wolfgang Moser. A small glass of dessert wine Pasithea Oro – late harvest is served after the tasting.
Alongside vines, various sorts of apple are also cultivated, including:
- Golden Delicious
- Red Delicious
- Gala Royal
- Pink Lady
- ancient apple- and pear cultivars such as Grafensteiner, Boskop, Kalterer Böhmer, Traminer, Wagner, Champagner, Lederer, Rosemary pear, Quitten pear, Pala pear, khaki, pomegranate, Kaiser pear, and more.
Some old Kaiser Alexander pear trees also grow in our garden, providing natural shade.
Our new building RAMUS was built consistently with our respect for nature. We saved a lot of old trees and rose bushes from the excavators and re-planted them in the RAMUS garden once the construction works were completed. Cosy places with rustic garden benches and a natural, colourful orchards with old apple- and pear trees is a marvellous place to relax.
